This week:  - we had some caroling and pj day this week - we finished up our equations math unit - we talked about waste in science and different types of waste - we also finished up our research on the early French settlements in Canada Finish Up:   - procedural writing good copy and biographies are due when we get back I sent home a little gift for your child today- hopefully they can use it to help them practice their basic facts over the break! Have a great break and we will see everyone in the new year- January 5!

  This Week: - in language arts we are finishing up our procedural writing and biographies. We created small bobblehead figures to go along with the biographies we were reading.  - in science we talked about earth's spheres interactions and human impact on earth's systems. We completed some diagrams and posters to show our learning - in social studies we started to learn about the first settlements in Canada and why the explorers stayed and kept coming to Canada. - in math we worked on algebra and equations. We talked about how to solve for a variable in an equation and how to use the opposite operation when solving for a variable. Next Week: - Tuesday and Thursday carolling  - Thursday library- please return all books! - Friday PJ Day (no stuffies please) Finish Up: - science human impact and earth's sphere's interactions posters - Natural Resources map

  This Week: - in language arts we started looking biographies and autobiographies. We talked about how biographies and autobiographies are structured in sequence and time lines. We also looked at how portraits and self-portraits can be a form of biographies. We looked at a bunch of portraits and tried to use the information in the picture to sequence the artwork in a timeline. We also have chosen a biography book to read and reserach. Ask me who I chose! - in math we are learning about equations and algebra. - in science, are finishing up our study of earth's spheres. This week we focused on how the sphere's interact and work together.  - in social studies we learned about natural resources and how some of the new people exploring Canada came for the resources here.  Next Week: - library is Tuesday- please return any books that are at home - Thursday is Wear green and red day Finish up - natural resources Canada map

  This Week: - in language arts we started our new novel Number the Stars. We also looked at some vowel spellings in our word work. We've started talking about patterns and pattern rules in math and we started to see how we could also use pattern rules when spelling. We also started using non-fiction text features in our reading. - in math we started to look at patterns and pattern rules in both arithmetic and geometric sequences. We learned about the Fibonacci sequence and how the numbers have special relationships to one another. We also talked about how pattern rules can become a specific set of instructions called algorithms. We learned about algorithms and how they are used in Rubik's cube to help solve problems and the cube.  - in science and social studies we started to go a little deeper into the geosphere and the landforms that Canada has. This Week: - in language arts we practiced our writing - in math we finished up our graphing unit. We also started to learn about patterns and review some ideas about counting and large numbers - in science we continued learning about earth four spheres - in social studies we started to learn about Canada. We talked about how Canada is divided up unto areas called provinces and territories. We created a map detailing all the provinces and territories. We also played some Canadian Provinces twister to help us remember all the provinces and territories. - we also learned about some Victorian architecture and combined it with the art of Monet to create spooky haunted houses.  Next Week: - library Thursday Finish Up: - Canada Map due Monday

This Week: - in language arts this week we continued looking at non-fiction text features and what they are. We also worked on building our sentences so that we have complete sentences with punctuation that make sense.  - in math we finished up our graphing unit. We will next be starting patterns and equations. - in science we learned about the four spheres that make up our earth's systems. We also started an experiment with pumpkins. It should be interesting (an disgusting) to see what happens to them. We also started learning about computer science and how computers work. We also learned about Damien Hirst and his use of dots in his art work.   This Week: - in language arts this week we finished up our look at genres by doing our Book Tasting. We went to different tables and were able to read some different genres.  - in math we continued with graphing by looking at how we can collect data and then represent it in a bar, dot or pictograph. - in science we've been learning about how earth's systems work to help organisms survive. We have been learning about the seasons, the salmon run, rivers, and hibernation work togehter to help with the survivial of brown bears. We have been following along and voting during Fat Bear Week, which is a challenge put on by the US National Parks Service to draw attention to the bears in Alaska.
